4 Affirmation Books That Helped Me Through 2020

As the end of 2020 quickly approaches (a year I’m sure many of us never thought would end), I have begun to think about what I am leaving behind in 2020, and what I am taking with me in 2020. One thing I am taking with me to the next year are few of my favorite affirmation books. I have never been a huge fan of affirmation and motivational books; however in recent years, I have acquired quite a few books from friends, and I must say, my affirmation and motivational books have become some of my new favorites! 

I highly recommend picking up one of these books before the end of 2020 (or at the start of the new year), and also grabbing something to keep your new book safe because these are definitely books that you are going to want to keep for years to come. 

1. Badass Affirmations: The Wit and Wisdom of Wild Women by Becca Anderson (2018) - This is my newest book; which I received as a gift for my 30th birthday. As my friend said, “we all need daily reminders of how awesome we are,” and that is exactly what this book is. This book is filled with inspirational quotes from some very inspirational women including Oprah, Frida Khalo, Arthea Franklin, and so many more. This book will remind you that you are a queen, you control your future, and positive thoughts beget positive experiences. 

2. A Year of Positive Thinking: Daily Inspiration, Wisdom, and Courage by Cyndie Spiegel (2018) - As the saying goes, you can change your life by just changing your thinking. Through daily affirmations, one for each day of the year, this book will guide you in living your best and most positive life yet. 

3. You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero (2013) - This is more of a self-help book rather than a book of affirmations, and although an older book, definitely still a very good read. The author shares a number of funny and inspiring stories about life experiences that help readers to reflect on their own life and figure out what they need to truly live their best life. As the title states, we are all “badass” and it is time for us to start believing and living like we are.

4. Becoming: A Guided Journal for Discovering Your Voice (2019) - This again is not a book of affirmations, but that does not make this journal any less important to grab. First off, if you have not already read Michelle Obama’s Becoming, you need to stop what you are doing and read it right now. Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming, chronicles the life of the former First Lady and the experiences that have shaped her into the woman that she is. The Becoming: Guided Journal is Michelle Obama’s gift to all of us, and even if you have not read Becoming, I still highly recommend this journal. As Mrs. Obama writes in the introduction, “I hope you’ll use this journal to write down your experiences, thoughts, and feelings, in all their imperfections, and without judgment. . . . We don’t have to remember everything. But everything we remember has value.” This journal is a gift meant to encourage us all to discover our own voices through prompts designed to help us all reflect on the people and the experiences that have shaped us, our hopes and dreams, and who we desire to become in the future.
